First week in Antigua

Week #1 Antigua

I had a few days spare when I first arrived in Antigua, Guatemala. I basically had a wander around the town - it's very 'touristy' and almost all the cafes have wifi. The streets and city layout is extremely organised and logical. First of all, right smack-bang in the middle is a big park called Central Park (or Parque Central in Spanish). My host family has 3 American guys from another school also staying there, and I am sharing a room with a girl from Perth called Sarah.

The family seems to be pretty wealthy, they have a maid who cooks and cleans and the house is fairly big. There are a few other houses too, all enclosed in a villa.

A weird thing I have found is that you can't flush the toilet paper, you have to put it in the rubbish bin! Also, the showers have one knob and work on water pressure, the water heats through the shower head so the less water you have, the more it heats up. BUT if you touch the shower head accidentally you get an electric shock (only a little one but still) because there is metal and exposed wires.

Here are some pictures of my house:

My bedroom (excuse the mess...awkward)

Front entry to the villa

Balcony (my room is on the right!)

The stairs of doom...so steep!

The dodgy alley in which we have to walk through...
just don't make eye contact with the hobos and drunks...
