Life in Antigua

Life in Antigua

The mini virtual tour ;)

This is a tuc-tuc. It has 3 wheels and is powered by a little battery under the driver's seat! It's pretty cheap and costs 10Q (quetzales) to get around, which is just over $1. You have to be careful though, because some driver's might not be safe - especially if you're a foreign girl alone at night. Tuc-tucs have to stay one block away from Central Park and can't drive past 10pm - if they do the driver will get a fine.

This is Volcan Agua (means water) - it towers over everything in Antigua.

There are lots of churches here, instead of statues there are really disturbing and realistic-looking mannequins...scary stuff. This picture is tame - there are some as Jesus with blood and stuff as well.

I love how all these shiny motorbikes are lined up next to the dodgiest house ever...so shady!

This is the hospital...looks legit...

'

And you can walk up to the top of this hill, where there is a big cross, and see over all of Antigua. Unfortunately it was a bit of a hazy day!

Their culture is very important to people here - most Myan women still wear their traditional clothing as part of their identity.

And the streets are all made of cobblestone! No real roads here!

I thought this was funny...hehehe...

Getting a hair braid

The women walk the streets selling their handmade scarves, jewellery etc and there are also these traditional hair braids you can get. They weave it into your hair and it lasts for about 2 months. I loved mine!
