Weekend #4 Monterrico
Sarah and I decided to get away for the weekend and so we booked a shuttle for the beach at Monterrico!
The rooms were so great, with palm-thatched roofs and everything.
We spent the whole weekend just relaxing, getting a tan and sipping piña coladas...my new favourite drink!
The volcanic sand was black, pretty cool!
We also were lucky enough to see a conservation program in action, baby turtles being released. However, they did it like a sponsorship thing, where you could pay a little bit of money (I think it was about $5 worth), and you could "own" that turtle - as in, you got to hold it for a few minutes and then you set it down where it would make its way to the waves. However, I saw these parents buy some for their kids, who thought the turtles were just like toys. The kid must have been 12 or older, but she was shaking it and laughing. I was so mad, like, these are living creatures and the parents should have been more responsible to tell their kid not to do something that could seriously harm these turtles. Anyway, fortunately they had to put them down and let them go to sea before I could step in and say anything (and I so would have). It kind of reminded me of Finding Nemo, where Darla is shaking the fish bag and saying, "FISHYYY!! WHY ARE YOU SLEEPING!?!"
But, all in all, it was a fantastic weekend going for a bit of a swim, reading books and relaxing.
