Casa Aleluya #2 - Last Day
So my travel agent in Guatemala talked to me and told me that because I had paid for a plane to Tikal (the Myan pyramids) and we were going by car, I had some credit to use up. He then said I could go on a all-expenses-paid, 3 day trip to El Salvador! That was amazing news, since I wasn't planning to go to El Salvador at all, but that meant that I would have to cut short my volunteering by a week.
My last day was pretty sad - I told the kids that I was leaving, and they even gave me a special kiss on the cheek goodbye.
Again, this has been such an experience. I am so privileged to know these kids, and I am so lucky to be a part of their life for a little while. I will always remember how I could make a sad kid laugh even after all they have been through, or when I changed a baby's nappy that has been sitting there for hours, and they immediately stopped crying and gave me a happy (and drooly!) smile.
In all honestly, I was there for such a short time that I probably didn't change any kid's life drastically - but I know they have changed mine.
I would adopt Matheo here - I love this kid!! We had a bit of a bond :-)
